Indian Paintbrush, Banff National Park
A freak snowstorm in August 1999 dumped eight inches of snow on my friend Travis and I as we backpacked through a high pass near Molar Meadows north of Lake Louise. While we nervously skirted around fresh grizzly tracks, the sun came out and began to melt away the snow around the flowers. This Indian Paintbrush was one of the first to melt off completely, though I was only able to take four shots before the snow around it caved in.
